Testimonials

"I came to karate with no martial arts background and found the Tokei experience to be a challenging and rewarding one. Kyokushin Karate is unbeatable for physical fitness, technique and discipline. The Tokei provides an environment where you can develop these fundamentals and progress from beginner to the higher grades in a demanding but supporting environment. There is a strong sense of togetherness at the Tokei that makes it a great place to train. I recommend it to anyone."

“I have been training at Tokei for about 15 years, and while people come and go there have been two constants.

Firstly, the training never gets easy when you put all your effort into it, but the personal rewards are growing all the time. I have made the best friends from all over the world and that group continues to grow. I have also travelled and trained many thousands of miles representing Englandand Great Britain, none of this would have happened without the dedication of the second constant Sensei OrlandoRoach. He kept the club together through the transient years never sacrificing the hard core that is Kyokushin Karate.  We have always included a section of the lesson dedicated to sparring/fighting, its not for everyone and unlike other clubs who have traded numbers of students and made it easier and more palatable to the masses, Sensei has kept true to the heart of Kyokushin Karate.”

“Tokei Kyokushin has a very good atmosphere with an energetic environment.”

“I had practiced Shotokan Karate to 1st Kyu, in my youth and always wanted to restart karate formally.  I chose Tokei because of its easy accessibility. My advice to others would be to consider both the style of karate and the atmosphere in which it is conducted.  Kyokushin has a healthy respect for other styles and I continued to wear my old belt, despite a near 20 year lapse.  The two styles have a lot in common but also differ in some fundamental aspects.  Kyokushin involves more contact which alerts the senses and, whilst still controlled, gives a greater sense of reality.  It takes a bit of time to reach the conditioning required to practice Kyokushin properly. The Tokei dojo is very welcoming and the instructors and students alike are able to bring you up to speed at a fast but appropriate pace.  I thoroughly recommend the uncompromising standards of Kyokushin and the warmth of the Tokei club.”

Matthew Durdy

“I came to the Tokei having left another Kyokushin Federation which had proved to be a very unfriendly environment – so needless to say I was somewhat “injured” by the experience. However, I love Kyokushin Karate and love the training, and when I joined the Tokei I was delighted to find a club that has such togetherness! There is a true team spirit in the club with everyone learning and growing as one. The Tokei has a positive, uplifting feel with a healthy sense of competition to ensure that students progress at a steady rate. Joining the Tokei was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!”

"I started training at Tokei 2 years ago and have enjoyed every second of it. From the first session, I started making friends and was made to feel welcome. The karate training is hard but fun. The instructor is very professional and obviously enjoys teaching. If I had started training at a different club I’m sure when I saw Tokei I would have changed :) "
